„WE CAN DO IT – Intercultural dialogue and artistic creation” 2017/2018
Hello. My name is Dima and I am a volunteer from Ukraine. I’m 24 years old.I came from Kharkiv. I am very happy to be here, and to be the part of a large family called A3Teatr. In Hajnowka, I was only one week, but in that short time, a lot of things happened. I have new friends from different countries. They are great guys. We share our own experiences and help each other. I am actor by education. So in the future I planning to try myself as a director, creating the perfomances. I take part in the performance „Balwanki”, so every day I have rehearsals and I have no time to be bored. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience from professionals in their field. Also this month we will prepare Christmas carols, we will release two performances, we will prepare for the celebration of Christmas. This will be a wonderful month. I think that this project will be a great springboard for self-realization. For the first time in my life I will meet Christmas in another country, with people who think I will become like a second family, it will be an unforgettable year.
My name is Victoria, I’m 22 years old and I actually take part of the EVS project of the association «Postcard» in Hajnòwka. I arrived from France on the beginning of november and will stay here for a year. I come from a small city located in the west of France and named Morlaix and I past the last three years in Paris where I studied costume making. The moment between my studies and the beginning of my professional life seems to me ideal to seize the opportunity that is an EVS. So I came here with the desire to travel, to meet new people from other countries and learn about their cultures. Currently, I am particularly interested in performing arts, area in which I would like to work as a costume maker. I already approached the performance environment on the occasion of internships which allowed me to realize its reality. The exchanges with the artistic team and the work with the other professionals greatly pleased me and gave me the desire to discover these jobs. The diversity of activities proposed for the mission seems important to me and makes possible the approach to all the tasks related to the performance, the creation of a festival and the associative environment. I find very interesting how the WERTEP festival works, its homelessness, its adaptability in different places, its cultural mix and its relation to the public. Its variety of theatrical forms is also very rich. I am sensitive to the work of the association, especially its involvement in education and transmission. I want to bring my small experience and knowledges and I hope I will learn and share a lot with all the team ! I like the idea of creating and exchanging with other European volunteers. I also really love cooking so I’m glad to have Anna, Cintia, Dima and Vita as flatmates I can cook for!
You know that feeling, when you really enjoy doing something? And it is double pleasure if it has something to do with helping and sharing. Volunteering, for instance. It’s happened to me during first short-term EVS. And now I want to continue moving in this direction. I am so happy to be the part of the Cultural Association “Postcard”, as I have a strong desire to work in theatrical, art field, becoming a part of WERTEP Festival.
I am Vita from Sumy, Ukraine, 21 y.o. I am in Poland only 5 days, but we already made a Volunteering Day in the school, presented information about EVS, painted posters, made friends with our wonderful volunteering team. There is actor I am very excited about future months here. With our cool team we will make a lot of cool projects. I’ve just got my Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and now studying to get Master’s Degree in Project Management Department so my sphere of interest is really broad: I love to learn and teach new languages, working with media, I love photography. I have no professional experience in theatre, but the greatest thing about EVS is that you don’t need it if you want be the part of everything you are interesting in and learn new skills, gaining a completely new knowledge etc.
What I expect from me volunteering? An unpriced, new experience of learning new things in art, theatre, put an intercultural approach through different kinds of activities; sharing what I know, wide intercultural background, breakdown stereotypes!
Hello everyone! My name is Anna, I’m 24 years old and I come from Italy. This year I’m taking part in a EVS project in Hajnówka. Here, I’m working with Association Postcard and A3Theatre, helping them with their activities and the realization of Wertep Festiwal. I’m sharing this experience with other four volunteers from Ukraine, France and Spain: we all have different backgrounds and I hope I’ll have the chance to learn many new things from them. I studied contemporary art and theatre in Venice and I had experience in different roles related to theatre and cultural managment. I worked in the organization of events, such as movie festivals, performances and art exhibitions. During this year in Poland I want to live as many experiences as possible and improve both in a personal and professional way. I’d like to write articles about events, performances and activities of the association, I want to improve my organizational skills and I’m really interested in challenging myself in performing, expecially in dance performances. I’m open for any new experience I’ll have the chance to live. I arrived in Hajnówka at the beginning of November and since then I already had the opportunity to visit a bit of Poland: we went to Poznan and Warsaw; also, with the other volunteers, I already participated to some activities: we are taking tai chi classes and three weeks ago I went to a dance and improvisation class in Kleszczele. We also made some nice activities in a school, talking with teenagers and sharing our cultures and experiences with them. I can’t wait for the future months to come, we are starting planning a parade for Christmas and on January we’ll have many new activities with the company. The best thing about living in Hajnówka is the opportunity to be surrounded by nature; I love studying mythology and bothanic so I can’t wait to start exploring the Białowieża Forest, its history and the legends related to it. Maybe this will be the beginning for a personal project, who knows!
Cintia Rico Abajo
My name is Cintia, 28 years old and I am an EVS volunteer at the Cultural Association „Pocztówka” in Hajnówka. Although I am from Spain, the city where I was born is in the north of the country, so it is not a hot place (as the stereotypes of Spain may suppose); Because of that, in this month of December I don’t feel an abrupt change of climate. But everyone here warns us that the worst is yet to come!
I chose to travel to Poland because I really want to put into practice my knowledge of managing and organizing cultural events and have more experience in this type of work. I have some work experience: I worked in a communication department, I also worked as a journalist, as a photographer and I even co-founded the International Horror and Fantasy Festival of Navarra (Horror Online Art) where I also designed the posters, advertising, fyers, etc. However, apart from all this type of work, I am excited to start in Hajnówka my personal project to create a puppet theater. I love drawing, painting, making things with my hands, thinking stories and, of course, I love music (I play the violin) and I hope this project is successful.
I am lucky to live with volunteers from other countries such as France, Italy or Ukraine. This mixture of cultures and languages is very stimulating. I think that this year working with Postcard Association and Wertep Festival will give me the opportunity to grow personally. The different people that I am getting to know and the amount of new places I am discovering in this country is very enriching. For me it is really inspiring to live in a city close to nature, (I can’t wait to visit the Bialowiesa forest!). Also, I am improving my English and learning Polish, as well as the great feeling of doing something positive as a volunteer. I am sure that this experience will be very exciting and valuable both for my studies and for my personal development.
